Social Engagement - the key to good mental health!

Gateway Community Services (GCS) has continually provided exceptional Social Support Services to communities since 1994. Offering an extensive range of programs in Melbourne and the Inner West, GCS aims to enrich and improve the overall health and wellbeing of residents whilst encouraging an active lifestyle. GCS brings groups closer together through our exciting mix of programs whilst taking in the sights and sounds of Melbourne or specialised targeted activities.

Over the years, GCS has evolved into a well-respected, significant and essential not-for-profit organisation supporting those who may be socially isolated, have health concerns that prevent them from engaging or may find some daily living tasks a little challenging.

GCS’ appealing mix of Social and Lifestyle programs:

  • Ages 18 – 100
  • Social Support
  • Group activities
  • Specialised Exercise
  • Peer support groups
  • Community Events Multicultural
  • Group support

*Eligibility for subsidised programs apply. All programs are offered to those on NDIS or Home Care Packages subject to availability

GCS Support for Care Givers:

Many people do not identify as a care giver (carer) because they feel it is their duty or their sense of commitment to the person they care for.  Often, persons providing support to others neglect their own health and mental wellbeing. GCS understands the plight of care givers and values their contribution to our communities.

Care Giver Support Groups

  • Community outings
  • Specialised Exercise Programs
  • Peer support groups
  • Respite
  • Also supporting care givers of those on Home Care Packages and NDIS

Community Transport
GCS transport has been designed to encourage people with mobility concerns to continue being active by offering access to our Community Transport Program. Our bus fleet offer pickup and drop from your residence on the day of GCS program. All buses are modified with support rails to ensure safety and support when boarding, exiting or during the journey.

Online engagement – Isolation impacts
In an increasingly isolated world, staying social is vital to maintaining a healthy lifestyle resulting in a greater sense of confidence and mental wellbeing. Research has shown that social connection impacts a person’s mental health and physical well-being.

With social outings not permitted, GCS has innovatively adapted to the changing environment and supported social connection online.  Our online programs on offer are:

  • Trivia sessions
  • Tai Chi
  • Specialised Exercise Programs
  • One to one Respite

All who join Gateway Community Services are considered family, and with our core values of respect, value and long-term relationships at heart, we aspire to create long-lasting friendships.

Our dedicated, caring and enthusiastic staff ensure a memorable experience and continue to provide excellent service.

GCS has applied Covid-safe plans to all activities and will continue to do so in the future.
